Biography

Dawn is a marketing communications professional, with 20 years of experience specifically in fundraising and communications within the animal welfare charity sector. Her lifelong devotion to The Donkey Sanctuary comes from her relationship to its founder Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE – as her granddaughter, Dawn has been involved with the charity for most of her life and is driven to engage and inspire people to take action to improve the lives of animals in need.

Through her role, Dawn has developed an extensive breadth of experience and knowledge of the charity and its fundraising and communications needs, and enjoys deep and meaningful connections with supporters and donors through the likes of newsletters and face-to-face events. Drawing on her first-hand experiences of the charity’s frontline operations in the UK and overseas in countries such as Ethiopia and Egypt she has helped the charity secure a strong legacy and donation income, helped transform visitor engagement at the Sanctuary’s main site and delivered a step change in the charity’s national and international media coverage.

Dawn is currently Head of Communications at The Donkey Sanctuary. She will be moving on, in mid-March, to the Mare and Foal Sanctuary as their Director of Fundraising and Communications and she will remain strongly connected to The Donkey Sanctuary as a volunteer spokesperson and supporter.
