Biography

James began his career in fundraising at Bluefrog where he started out as a copywriter and ended up as Head of Planning ten years later.

He left to co-found Open Creates which today employs over 60 people and runs campaigns for some of the world's largest nonprofits – including CRUK, BHF, Unicef, WWF and the ACLU.

James helped pioneer mobile fundraising in the UK and negotiated the regulatory changes that led to the development of regular giving via PSMS. Dissatisfied with the systems available at the time, he co-founded Open Mobile Global which today provides controllable, flexible donation systems to charities in the UK and US.

James conceived of SOFII's 'I Wish I'd Thought of That' event and his lame jokes have become a depressingly familiar part of this otherwise wonderful event. He has spoken frequently (but not so recently) at the IOF, IFC and other conferences and is an (unpaid) adviser to Oxfam's trustees on fundraising & communications.
