Karen began her career in the corporate sector, holding various sales, marketing and strategic roles in IBM and Canon. Broad marketing, communications and management skills, combined with a passion for community, saw her transition to the not-for-profit sector in 2008, where she has held senior fundraising and marketing roles across international aid, women’s services and medical research. She is currently Director of Fundraising and Development at the Black Dog Institute, a Sydney-based research institute dedicated to mental health and suicide prevention.

Since joining Black Dog Institute in 2014, Karen has embarked on a program of growth and diversification of fundraising streams, and built a high functioning team, which has seen the organisation more than quadruple its fundraising income from $1.7m to $8m in the past 4 years.

Karen has a Bachelor of Business from University of Technology, Sydney and a MBA from University of Miami, Florida. She also serves on two non-profit boards in her home town of Sydney, Australia.
